How Compassion is Helping Our Environment

I read some pretty startling facts about our environment today.  Did you know that we are losing one and a half acres of rain forest every second and that the global temperature will rise between 1.4% and 5.8% in our lifetime?   But, I also found out that Compassion is doing some really awesome things to help our environment.  I never know all the great things that Compassion is doing to help make the environment a better place.

  • Compassion Programs in Africa have planted more than 10,000 trees
  • In Haiti, Compassion assisted children are learning about deforestation and how that affects the environment
  • Through hydroponics program, children are learning how to grow plants in water and how to be good stewards of this resource
  • Throught the Child Survival Program, mothers are learning how to dispose of waste and how to compost garden waste
  • Students in the Leadership Development Program are getting degrees in Engineering, Natural Resource Management, and much more.

The Letter That Blessed My Heart

It all started with these sentences: “She says thank you for all the good things you have done to her and for the love and concern you have shown her. She says she fells very loved and thanks God for making you to be her friend.” WOW! What a sweet and precious little girl. Who knew that my $32 a month, stickers, and letters that I sent made such a profound impact. I am just so blessed to have Goodness as a friend. Those two sentences blessed my heart so much! I never knew how much sponsorship would impact my life. Sponsorship is so rewarding and I think It could be such a blessing to so many others, if they sponsored a child.

Please help precious children like Goodness!

The Faith of Children

I love to hear stories of children in the Compassion Projects.  They have such a deep love for the Lord and depend on him for everything.  They may not have much, but they are thankful for each and everything God has given them.  My sponsored child, Goodness, spurs me on in my faith.  She may only be five years old, but she has a deeper love for God than people 10 times her age.  I read other stories about children in Kenya whose houses were burned down.  This is what a young Kenyan boy named Moses said,”…Now, the only thing we do is depend on God.”  Children just believe in God and have a simple faith.  As we get older, I think we complicate our faith and we don’t trust God like we should; I know I have.

Matthew 18:2-6
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Let’s welcome these children into our hearts and learn a thing or two about trusting God.

How God Uses Ordinary People

I find myself suffering from “blogger’s block”, if there is such a thing.  I want to so badly to get the message out for Compassion, but I just don’t know how.  I feel so inadequate in everyway.   Then I remember that God uses ordinary people just like me to make a world of difference.  Ordinary people like me can do extraordinary things when God is on their side.  It is amazing how God can use my $32 a month to make a difference.  If God can use a silly, inadequate person like me, he can use you to.

Do something extraordinary, sponsor a child through Compassion International.

Christian Bloggers Arrive Safely in Uganda

The 16 bloggers have arrived safely in Uganda today! As I was looking at the Compassion Blog I saw such beautiful pictures. There were pictures of the bloggers playing with the children, hugging them, and just showing them love. I am so excited to read each blog to learn about Compassion’s ministry. The things these people are witnessing are so eye opening. They are seeing the small, crowded living conditions, but also how Compassion is able to help these children. I think each blog is so interesting and you can learn tons about Compassion’s ministry and Uganda.

Blessings In My Mailbox

My second letter from Goodness arrived a month ago. I was having a pretty rough day but when I saw that envelope that said “Message From Your Sponsored Child” I was so excited. Suddenly all the little problems in my day seemed to disappear from my mind. As I read aloud my letter to my mom, we both began to cry. This little girl in a far away country was such a blessing. To see how grateful she was to me for sponsoring her and the love she had in her heart for God brought me so much joy. She thanked me for the $25 I sent her for her birthday. Goodness was able to buy 2 dresses, socks, a blanket, shoe polish, and bread that she shared with her family. She said that she was so excited about the new dresses because she wanted to wear them to church( a girl after my own heart).

She told me all about where she goes to school and her favorite subjects. Goodness loves to go to school because she likes to learn to read and write. She also loves to draw(which she is really great at). Goodness told me all about her church and all the Bible stories and songs she has learned. As the letter came to a close, Goodness said that she is thankful to God for sending me to be her friend. What a precious child! She also asked that I pray that she is obedient to God and her parents. What a great kid, to be five years old and trying to be obedient to God and her parents. At the end of the letter, she said that she is praying for me. What a wonderful blessing that a precious little girl from Africa is praying for me! She also drew me such pretty pictures in the letter. I guess all there is left to say is that I am truly blessed to be sponsoring such a wonderful girl and God has blessed me is so many ways.

Just $32 a Month

Just $32 a month can make a profound impact on a sponsored child’s life.  If you have one less coffee a day or one less pop a day, you could make a difference in a child’s life.  I know that I can live without that one pop a day or that one pair of jeans a month.  My challenge to Christians is to take a step back and see if that pop a day or pair of jeans is really worth it compared to impacting a child’s life.

  • Pair of jeans: $30
  • One pop a day: $30
  • Making a difference in a child’s life: Priceless

    The True Meaning of Compassion

The definition of the word compassion is: sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.  I think Compassion International does just this.  Compassion sees a need and with God’s grace meets it.  They see how much hopelessness and poverty children all over the world face and they want to help.

    Sponsorship provides children with:

    • educational opportunities
    • basic health services
    • opportunities to be loved and encouraged by a caring sponsor
    • the chance to hear the gospel and accept Jesus as their savior

Compassion is bringing light into the darkest parts of the world and you can be apart of it.
